Overview of the role

Smart CT is seeking a skilled and experienced Cabling, Network & Footfall Deployment Engineer to install, maintain and support our expanding network and footfall analytics infrastructure projects. As a Field Engineer, you will join a robust network of 50+ skilled engineers nationwide. Your primary responsibilities will include the installation of structured data cabling, deployment and configuration of IT hardware and footfall equipment, and providing high-quality support across diverse client sites throughout the UK. The role requires regular out-of-hours work to meet customer needs and operational requirements.

Main Responsibilities

  • Structured data cabling across various customer locations, including installation, termination and testing.
  • Installation, configuration and maintenance of footfall counting and analytics equipment.
  • Collaboration with Engineering and Logistics teams to plan and execute network and footfall equipment deployments.
  • Conduct thorough pre-deployment inspections and site surveys. 
  • Hands-on installation and guided configuration of networking hardware, cabling components and footfall systems.
  • Develop deployment documentation, capture accurate data and update templates. Provide feedback to Engineering for continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with the Service Desk daily to provide positive solutions for customers.
  • Support ad hoc/Smart Hands tasks during business hours.
  • Work out-of-hours as required, including evenings and weekends, to support deployment schedules and customer needs.
  • Travel extensively across the UK and occasionally abroad for deployment projects, support and training.

Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years of hands-on data cabling and network installation experience.

  • Experience with footfall technologies is advantageous (training provided if needed).

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines (SLA-driven).

  • Health & Safety qualifications (DBS, CSCS, etc.) and equipment certifications (IPAF) are advantageous but not essential. (Training provided if needed)

  • Excellent timekeeping and punctuality.

  • Customer-focused with clear and effective communication skills.

  • Self-motivated with a can-do attitude and a proactive approach to improving processes.

  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing environments and requirements.

  • Willingness to travel across the UK and work out-of-hours.

  • Locations include, but are not limited to, the Midlands and the South (including London).

  • Full and clean driving license required.
